| A great event took place in Shanghai in TWO THOUSAND SEVEN. There were Shanghai Special World Summer Games in TWO THOUSAND SEVEN for people who are intellectually retarded. That measure took place in China for the first time and it was only the second time it took place beyond the borders of the US. It was set by the Special Olympics. A lot of people from all the places visited Shanghai to participate or only to watch the contest. 7, 500 special athletes took part in Special Olympic World Summer Games, together with the best of the 2 500 000 sportsmen who competed in 165 countries to take part in the games. They became a persuasive proof of the fact that Special Olympics is for those people who could overtake their problems. Many politicians, families, volunteers, foreigners and journalists arrived to that event. All athlets were sorted into 6 types according to their disability categories: 1. Amputee: Athletes with any extremity or extremities loss. 2. Cerebral Palsy: Participants with non-progressive mentality impairment or similar diseases influencing brawn control or balance. 3. Intellectual Disablement: Participants with a significant impairment in intellectual performance and associated limitations in adaptative behaviour. 4. Wheelchair: Participants with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities which involve them to compete in a wheelchair. 5. Sand-blind: Athletes with sight damage ranging from partial vision to absolute cecity. 6. Les Autres: Participants with a physical handicap that cannot be found right under any of the other five groups (the name for that category is the French for "the others"). Special Olympics sportsmen of groups competed in TWENTY FIVE diverse sports: aquatics, athletics, badminton, hoops, bocci, bowling, cricket, cycling, dragon boat racing, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, judo, kayaking, lion dance, power-lifting, roller, skating, sailing, softball, ping-pong, team handball, tennis, volleyball, motor activities.
