In the Puerto Vallarta real estate market, we prefer to talk about the highest standards, since these are what Puerto Vallarta’s home buyers look for, and find.? The beaches of this tourist destination are no exception; recently it was officially recognized that the Puerto Vallarta real estate area enjoys some of the cleanest beaches in Mexico, living up to strict international standards.
?
In the second week of August, several beaches in the Puerto Vallarta area, including Camarones and Garza Blanca in Puerto Vallarta itself, as well as Nuevo Vallarta Sur, Nuevo Vallarta Norte and Bucer?as in the nearby Nayarit, were officially recognized with the Mexican “Clean Beaches” (“Playas Limpias”) award.
?
Besides just being clean in the sense of suitable for recreational use, the award indicates that area’s beaches demonstrate sustainable development, are free of contaminants, and compete on a world level as prime tourist destinations.
?
Of 324 beaches inspected, and 22 which were seeking the distinction, only 8 beaches were named “Clean Beaches” – 5 of these were in the Puerto Vallarta real estate area! This distinction is difficult to receive, and purposely so.? The secretary of the environment, Juan Rafael Elvira Quesada, noted that to receive the distinction an area needs to invest large amounts of funds and take decisive political action.? Also, the standards are met on a voluntary basis, so only few destinations are willing to take the necessary steps.
?
The standards to be met are based on high international standards, and take beaches in other top world tourism destinations into account, such as Spain, France and Costa Rica.? Elvira said that they want the standards to be difficult, and only the very cleanest beaches, meeting the highest international standards should be recognized.? Thus, this distinction puts the Puerto Vallarta real estate region on a level not only among the top beaches in Mexico Real Estate, but among the top beaches in the world.
?
One of the main priorities of the recognition is water treatment.? Puerto Vallarta offers a high level of water treatment, fulfilling the requirements of the “Clean Beaches” standards.? The long term goal is to bring the rest of Mexico’s tourist destination up to this same standard, with 100% water treatment program by 2012.? According to CONAGUA (Comision Nacional de Agua), so far 4.5 billion pesos have been invested water treatment programs in the last 5 years, with another 2.2 billion budgeted.
?
The governor of the state of Nayarit, Ney Gonzalez, stated that the most difficult part of receiving the certificate is the ongoing process of cleaning litter from beaches – a difficult, but necessary task in protecting the natural setting and clean image of the beaches.? According to Gonzalez there are three important reasons to keep the beaches clean; health, economy and love.? The love is not only for nature, but also for family and friends; everyone wants to take their families to the cleanest beach possible.? The “Clean Beaches” certificate acknowledges the effort driven by these factors and the results achieved through them.
?
Puerto Vallarta is likewise aiming to gain the “Clean Municipality” (“Municipios Limpios”) distinction.? Like the “Clean Beaches” distinction this certificate will help to guarantee that the Puerto Vallarta real estate area continues to offer one of the cleanest and best beachfront destinations the world has to offer.? Both of the certificates will likewise be useful in international recognition and promotion of the area as a top tourist and real estate choice. |
