Bloody Sunday - Derry City, Northern Ireland On the 30th of January 1972, Irish Nationalists in Derry City were marching for basic civil rights which they were denied by the Unionist government of the occupied territory of Northern Ireland. They suffered job discrimination, poor housing and the denial of voting rights. The march consisted of several thousand people. The company of British troops who were deployed had seen 2 of their colleagues shot dead by the IRA the week before and were baying for blood. When a group of children began throwing rocks at them they used it as an excuse to open fire with live ammunition. They indiscriminately fired into the crowd and even shot people who were trying to help others. the soldiers were awarded medals for bravery by the Queen of England and none of them have been reprimanded or tried for murder.
